Just having bought a Nissan Micra (my first ever car) without any handbooks or any useful info at all, I definitely needed something to let me know more about my car. All the instructions were easy enough to follow (at least for the "weekly" checks, i.e. terminal conditions, oil levels etc.) and EVERYTHING is well illustrated. Another thing that was really handy was that the book had a rating from 1-5 for how easy each task was, whether a complete novice could do it, or whether it was best left to a professional. And everything to do with the Micra is covered. Perhaps the book errs on the side of caution a little too much; do you really need to check oil/brake/wiper fluid levels EVERY WEEK? Also, sometimes it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for. For example, it would be great if the required tyre pressure was repeated at the instruction on checking tyre pressures... You can imagine my frustration on knowing how to check the tyre pressures, but not knowing what the preferred pressures actually were! I eventually found them, when I flicked to the correct page (by accident!) and my friend then pointed to them. Same applies to bulb types for lights etc. Also, the book fits in the front door side pockets, which is good, but my hand catches on it when trying to wind the window down quickly, which is annoying. So it would be brilliant if it was a little bit smaller, perhaps so that it fitted in the glove box, or at least didn't catch my hand when it's in the door pocket. (I eventually got round it buy putting the book in the PASSENGER'S door pocket!) That said, it does the job adequately, and my complaints are only minor. Thanks to this book, I have been able to replace a brake light bulb, do all the weekly checks and figure out what all the strange units under my bonnet actually are! Finally, it is the only book available of it's type, you try and find another! I couldn't even find duplicate Nissan handbooks, at least not on the internet. So, my most serious complaint is that it could be a little more user-friendly for the above reasons, though I do acknowledge that this book is certainly not user-unfriendly. The illustrations and instructions are very clear. Good effort on Andrew K. Legg's part. It's a good buy.

Covers all the essential jobs, and also most of the ones you wouldn't dare touch yourself. You need not take your car to a Nissan garage again for routine servicing, as it even shows you how to check the electronic components using a neat 'self-test' feature built into the car.

The only thing it would be nice to see would be more colour pictures, as some of the black-and-white photos can be a little indistinct at times.
