This vast pair of books documents the history of the Le Mans 24 hours almost entirely from contemporary magazine articles -- previews, features and race reports tied together with brief specially-written summaries. So, there is a vast collage of different styles and viewpoints, and the history of motoring and racing magazines comes to light alongside the history of the race (for example, look at the difference in detail between recent Autosport reports and those from say 30 years ago!)
These books aren't lavish, but they are well-produced, superb value and will provide years of entertainment.
I attended my first Le Mans this year and the atmosphere these massive books conjured up before the race was exactly as I'd expected. A fantastic tribute to a fantastic event.
